Preventing the proliferation of these viruses by incorporating into the structure of viral DNA, the drug performs therapeutic and prophylactic effect on diseases caused by them.
Indications for Use
Pill "Zovirax" is used in adults and children in the following cases: - for the treatment of infections of the skin and mucous membranes caused by the herpes simplex virus, including primary and recurrent genital herpes - for the suppression (prevention of relapses) and prevention of infections caused by herpes simplex virus; - for the treatment of infections caused by viruses of smallpox and windy Nerres zoster (shingles), namely, to ease pain - for the treatment of patients with severely impaired immunity, namely: with advanced HIV infection and after bone marrow transplantation.
Dosing and Administration
Pill "Zovirax" intended for internal use. Dose you designate a physician, depending on the type and severity of infection, as well as the state of your immune system. Always follow the doctor's recommendations. Do not exceed the intended dose. Usual doses for treatment represent from 200 to 800 mg 4-5 times a day. Usual dose for prevention - 200 mg 3-4 times per day or 400 mg 2 times a day. Duration of treatment is individual and should be installed by your doctor. Doses for children depend on age, body mass and disease. In the appointment of the drug the doctor also will take into account the state of your kidneys. Always follow the doctor's recommendations. Interaction with other drugs
Significant interaction of the drug "Zovirax" with other drugs at this time is not revealed. It should be borne in mind that acyclovir is mainly excreted by the kidneys, so any other medicine, which had a similar mechanism of selection, can increase the concentration of acyclovir in plasma. Probenecid and cimetidine increase the level of acyclovir in the blood.
